We invite you to join any of the committees listed below to help us bring God's love and mercy to all. With your help, we will make St. James a beacon of hope, justice, and peace in Midtown Kansas City.

o   Leadership Team – The Leadership Team represents the people of the parish, and provides the "framework" for collaborative, transparent, and inclusive parish operation and parishioner participation. The LT meets once every month for 90 minutes, usually on a Tuesday evening.

o   Parish Growth – The Parish Growth Committee focuses on attracting guests and visitors to the parish and growing the numbers of registered and committed parishioners at St. James. Name Tag Sundays, Faith Formation luncheons and neighborhood outreach are just a few of the ways the Parish Growth Committee "brands" St. James and gets the word out about just how wonderful this community is. This committee meets once a month on a Sunday right after Mass.

o   Liturgy  – The unique spirit of St. James is evident in our Sunday Mass, thanks to the Liturgy Committee that coordinates and organizes the liturgy and prayer life of St. James. The committee ensures that our liturgy reflects the documents of Vatican II, relevant liturgical norms, and the very special identity of our community.

o   Music – What would Liturgy and Mass be without spirited Music? St. James adult choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 6:30 during the school year and in the summer, Sunday mornings before Mass. At special holiday liturgies, we have a children's choir. Let's not forget our Micronesians and Nigerians and their participation in the music program. Come join the fun!

o   Christian Formation – The Christian Formation Team plans and assesses ways to help form the St. James Community in its essential identity as baptized followers of Jesus. Christian Formation covers ongoing formation of adults, catechesis and sacramental preparation for youth and children. The Team provides the community with a systematic and comprehensive formation that draws from the scriptural, doctrinal, and liturgical treasures of the church.

o   Youth Ministry – The St. James Youth Group is a group of committed, engaged middle and high school children who put the unique values of St. James into action through their active participation in spiritual formation, sacramental prep, service ministry and community building, along with fun events such as Trunk or Treat, serving at the Ronald McDonald House, and much more! Support from adults in planning and coordinating Youth Group activities will ensure that these terrific kids will continue to contribute their very best!

o   Finance – This is the committee that has the financial "pulse" of the parish! The Finance Committee represents the parish in making financial decisions on the community's behalf, has oversight responsibility for the parish budget, addresses shortfalls, partners with the Diocese in fiscal matters, and sensitively communicates financial concerns with the parishioners.

o   Fundraising – Well, really folks, it's more like a FUN-raising Commitee. This is the team who dreams up and brings life the St. James Festival, Music on Troost Concerts, Cinnamon Rolls Extravaganzas, Bingo Brats & Beer, Silent Auctions, Raffles, and lots more! From baking to decorating, ushering to bingo calling, the Fundraising Committee can always use more people to join in the FUN: the more the merrier!

o   Buildings & Grounds – When a building is 100 years old, there's always something needing to be repaired, moved, polished, installed, cleaned, stored, or other TLC. The Maintenance Committee meets on the first Sunday of the month to tackle whatever's on the "punch list." Some tools are provided (but it is best to BYO), and coffee and donuts jump start each work session. The achievements of this committee are concrete, visible, and epic, and they help our parish to save on expenses.

o   Hospitality – Ever wonder where those delicious pastries and other snacks that are served on Hospitality Sunday come from? Parishioners bring refreshments to share every third Sunday of the month, but it's the Hospitality Committee who puts it all together, setting up, serving, and cleaning afterwards. Many hands hands make this very light work, and volunteers are welcome to become members of the committee or just jump in and lend a hand as your schedule allows!

o   Community Gardens – The Communal Garden and Cloister Garden provide parishioners with free vegetables, herbs and flowers, grown without the assistance of chemicals, after Mass on Sunday. But those veggies and flowers don't grow and pick themselves! Volunteers - with and without green thumbs - are needed to help out in the Garden on Saturday mornings during the growing season. Help is also needed to harvest and weigh the produce on Sunday morning before mass, and to distribute it after mass. Tools and instructions are provided, and volunteers get first pick of the sweet potatoes!

o   Office Angels – Help out in the parish office during the week with newsletters and mailings. Run copies, stuff envelopes, and while you're at it, catch up on the local news with fellow parishioners. Hours are flexible, and coffee, tea, hot chocolate and always available!
