Good day, St. James Community.  Here is the latest news and your SUNDAY bulletin for May 11, 2025.

Update on Parish Synodal Director.  Last week, it was announced that Sarah Sommerkamp is a candidate for the position.  She has withdrawn her name for consideration.  Thank you, Sarah, for giving this your prayerful consideration.

WE WELCOME ANYONE WHO CAN ATTEND SUNDAY MASS AT ST. JAMES AT 10:00 A.M. Fr. Garry Richmeier will be our celebrant. Considering that many parishioners are still suffering the effects of the COVID-19 virus and other infections, if you plan to join us in person, we recommend masking if you exhibit symptoms or are immunocompromised.

WE CONTINUE TO LIVE STREAM OUR 10:00 AM SUNDAY MASS, reaching out to parishioners and friends who can’t attend in person. Here is the link to the live stream on our Facebook page for St. James Midtown, KC. A recording of the live-streamed Mass can also be accessed at https://stjkc.org/sundays-at-st-james.

If you weren’t able to join us for our May 4th parish-wide Synod meeting, here is the web address to watch the video:  https://www.facebook.com/stjamesmidtown/videos/23869564052667186/
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO VISIT THE ST JAMES WEBSITE REGULARLY at www.StJKC.org and provide feedback or ideas for posts. Please send your ideas to website@stjkc.org.

MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO READ AND REFLECT ON THE READINGS BEFORE MASS.  This Sunday’s readings for the Third Sunday of Easter.

FIRST READING: Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41 – When brought before the Sanhedrin, the apostles boldly declared they must obey God rather than men—proclaiming Jesus’s resurrection, forgiveness, and salvation—while rejoicing in the dishonor they endured for His name. How does the apostles’ unwavering commitment to divine truth in the face of persecution inspire you to prioritize your own spiritual convictions over societal pressures?

SECOND READING: Revelation 5:11-14 – John describes a vision in which countless angels, living creatures, and elders, along with all of creation, unite in worship to proclaim the Lamb’s unmatched worthiness to receive eternal power, honor, and glory. How does this portrayal of universal worship inspire you to reflect on the value and impact of praising the divine in your own life?

GOSPEL: John 21:1-19 – At the Sea of Tiberias, after a fruitless night of fishing, Jesus reappears to his disciples— unrecognized at first but soon revealed as he directs them to an overwhelming catch of fish and shares breakfast with them— affirming his resurrection and divine identity for the third time. In what ways do moments of unexpected abundance or realization in your life reflect the transformative power of recognizing a deeper, guiding presence?

Fr. Don Farnan has a wonderful weekly podcast that addresses important issues of the day and how they intersect with our faith.  Check it out and subscribe.       https://uponthisrockpodcast.buzzsprout.com/

Honor your Mother and Help Another
This Mother’s Day, celebrate the woman who gave you everything by giving hope to a mother who’s doing her best with so little.

Your gift helps provide:

  • Essentials like diapers and baby formula
  • Support for rent, utilities, and housing
  • Compassionate care and one-on-one guidance
  • Nutritious food from our Market- enough to feed a family for up to one month

When you give in her honor, you’re not just saying thank you, you’re helping another mother give her child everything she can.

Because of her… you can lift another.
