We Seek Christ in Serving Others
“Service is what prayer looks like when it gets up off its knees and walks around in the world.”
~Fr. Michael J. Graham, SJ
Lots of Ways to Get Involved.
Service to each other, to the Midtown Kansas City community, and to the world beyond is in the DNA of St. James parishioners. There is something for everyone at St. James, and you are both welcomed and encouraged to learn more about the many fulfilling ways that St. James people give of their time, talent or treasure.
If you are interested in getting involved, reach out to the contact person listed for each ministry. If you have a general question, please use the form on our Contact page.
“People say, ‘What is the sense of our small effort?’ They cannot see that we must lay one brick at a time, take one step at a time. A pebble cast into a pond causes ripples that spread in all directions. Each one of our thoughts, words and deeds is like that. No one has a right to sit down and feel hopeless. There’s too much work to do.” – Dorothy Day
Stewardship Ministries
At St. James, “stewardship” refers to all the things we do to ensure the ongoing and sustainable operation of the parish in all of its practical aspects, from establishing the annual budget to keeping the parish office running effectively; from planning and staffing the next fundraiser to updating the website. Parish Ministries
St. James is a strong, compassionate, and vibrant parish family, rooted in the Lord through the Eucharist and each other. These ministries support our Sunday worship, faith activities, and fellowship.
Outreach Ministries
We are the hands and face of the Lord to all whom we meet. St. James’s outreach to the surrounding community and beyond has grown organically, reflecting the current issues in our society, the diverse interests of our parishioners, and our deep commitment to social justice. The following is a list of ministries, organizations and partnerships through which St. James people make a broader impact in the world.
“The place God calls you to be is the place where your deep gladness
and the world’s deep hunger meet.” –Frederick Buechner, Ordained Presbyterian Minister
