It is with profound sorrow and tender gratitude that we share the passing of Deacon Philip Ross Beaudoin, who faithfully served as St. James’s Parish Administrator from 2002 to 2013. Ordained a Deacon for the Catholic Diocese of Kansas City–St. Joseph in 1978, Ross devoted his life to ministry, serving in many roles across the diocese with humility, wisdom, and grace.
In 2002, when St. James Parish stood on the brink of closure, Bishop Boland entrusted Ross—then living in Independence, MO—with the daunting task of leading us through crisis. Our numbers were dwindling, our bills unpaid, and our future uncertain. But Ross arrived with quiet strength and a resolute spirit. He rallied the faithful, restored hope, and helped us rebuild—not just our parish, but our sense of purpose and belonging. Ross never was simply an administrator—he was the very heartbeat of St. James. His presence filled our parish with warmth, encouragement, and a steadfast commitment to the Gospel.
Even after his retirement, Ross remained a guiding light, continuing to nurture the spirit of community, justice, and love that defined his ministry. His reach extended far beyond our parish walls. Ross poured himself into the wider community through his work with Troost Alliance, Manos Amigas KC, Oglesby Apartments, and KC Welcome Alliance. Wherever there was a need, Ross was there—showing up with compassion, courage, and a conviction that love knows no boundaries. He reminded us that one person’s courage can spark transformation, and that true discipleship is measured not in words, but in the lives we touch.
Ross, we honor you. We thank you for your unwavering faith, your fearless heart, and the radiant light you leave behind. Your witness will continue to inspire every step we take at St. James and throughout the community. Truly, you have been a good and faithful servant of the Gospel—and we are forever grateful that you are a part of St. James’s faith journey.
Ross leaves behind his wife Renata of 56 years and their four children, Tom, Ann, John and Stephen. Please keep the Beaudoin Family in your prayers.
