National Gun Violence Awareness Month: June

In 2022, the USCCB wrote a letter to Congress stating: “We urge all members of Congress to reflect on the compassion all of you undoubtedly feel in light of these tragic events and be moved to action because of it. There is something deeply wrong with a culture where these acts of violence are increasingly common…Among the many steps toward addressing this endemic of violence is the passage of reasonable gun control measures.” During National Gun Violence Awareness Month, we stand with the bishops in pro-life solidarity for an end to violence and for common sense reforms.

Film for a Cause with Intersect KC and AIRR

Join us on Sunday, June 14, at 2:30 p.m. for a special screening of After the Raid, a powerful documentary exploring the impact of a major immigration raid on a small Tennessee community and the difficult questions it raised about faith, justice, and human dignity. Following the film, participants will have the opportunity to engage in discussion with local leaders who work alongside Kansas City’s immigrant community. Reserve your spot here.

250 Years Towards Racial Justice: Progress, Promise, and Challenges
Monday, June 15, 11:30am – 12:30pm

From Georgetown University: “Catholic teaching tells us that racism is a sin, a national moral failure, and a fundamental test of our faith. As we celebrate Juneteenth and our nation’s two hundred and fiftieth anniversary, this dialogue will look at the Voting Rights Act and its contested future – including the recent Supreme Court decision that significantly altered Section 2, and the redistricting steps some states have since moved to take – and the broader questions these developments raise about civil rights and the health of our democracy. We will also explore how diversity contributes to the strength of our universities, Church, and nation as — together — we seek to build a more perfect union.” Click here to RSVP and view the live discussion online.
