Good day, St. James Community.  Here is the latest news and your SUNDAY bulletin for APRIL 27TH, 2025.

Due to scheduling conflicts, Sunday’s PARISH SYNODAL MEETING has been moved to after Mass on Sunday, May 4.  Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

FIRST COMMUNION SUNDAY.     On First Communion Sunday, April 27, we anticipate several visitors at St. James.  To be a more welcoming community, we want to ensure ample parking in our parking lot.  If you can, we ask that parishioners park along Troost or Harrison.  We appreciate your cooperation.

WE WELCOME ANYONE WHO CAN ATTEND SUNDAY MASS AT ST. JAMES AT 10:00 A.M. Fr. Garry Richmeier will be our celebrant. Considering that many parishioners are still suffering the effects of the COVID-19 virus and other infections, if you plan to join us in person, we recommend masking if you exhibit symptoms or are immunocompromised.

WE CONTINUE TO LIVE STREAM OUR 10:00 AM SUNDAY MASS, reaching out to parishioners and friends who can’t attend in person. Here is the link to the live stream on our Facebook page for St. James Midtown, KC. A recording of the live-streamed Mass can also be accessed at https://stjkc.org/sundays-at-st-james

WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO VISIT THE ST JAMES WEBSITE REGULARLY AT www.StJKC.org and provide feedback or ideas for posts. Please send your ideas to website@stjkc.org.

MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO READ AND REFLECT ON THE READINGS BEFORE MASS.  This Sunday’s readings are for the Second Sunday of Easter.

FIRST READING – Acts 5:12-16: The apostles’ miraculous signs and wonders at Solomon’s Portico— where crowds gathered to witness the healing of the sick and deliverance from unclean spirits, to an ever-growing community of believers. How does this powerful illustration of communal faith and divine intervention challenge or inspire your understanding of healing and community today?

SECOND READING – Revelation 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17- 19: John receives a vision in which a majestic figure amid seven golden lampstands reassures him and charges him to record the unfolding divine events. How does this vision of divine reassurance and prophetic commissioning speak to your experiences in moments of isolation or challenge?

GOSPEL – John 20:19-31: When the resurrected Jesus appears to his locked disciples—commissioning them with the Holy Spirit—he demonstrates that divine reassurance transforms fear into faith. How does this profound act of trust resonate with your experiences of overcoming uncertainty?

Fr. Don Farnan has an excellent weekly podcast that addresses critical issues of the day and how they intersect with our faith.

SUNDAY, May 4 is Pantry Sunday.
Bishop Sullivan Center requests summer snacks for kids. Please consider bringing the following items to church next Sunday: fruit snacks, granola bars, pudding or fruit cups, peanut butter and crackers, cheese and crackers, Ravioli, and Spaghettios. The donations from St. James are greatly appreciated by the Center, which supports its mission to help the marginalized in our community. Thank you for your continued generosity.

The Vatican announced the morning of April 21 that Pope Francis has died. Please join us in prayer for the repose of his soul and in gratitude for all he has done in his service to the global Church. Pope Francis’ funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 3:00 AM (KC time) in St. Peter’s Square. Tune into Vatican News, https://www.vaticannews.va/en.html for a livestream.

MANOS AMIGAS UPDATE.    Mother’s Day is coming soon. While you remember and celebrate your mother, remember the mothers in Anapra.  From the young moms with new babies and toddlers learning to navigate motherhood to the elderly grandmothers who raised their children and now need their community to be their support network.  This year, we asked the scholarship students what makes their mom special.  You can see their stories at manosamigask.org or our Facebook page.  You might also think about honoring your mother or the memory of your mother with a donation to help the mothers in Anapra.

The end of the school year is coming.  Manos Amigas is asking for those leftover and used school supplies that your kids or schools throw away at the end of the school year.  Teachers in Anapra ask us for anything to help them teach students who don’t even have a pencil or markers to learn.  We will take supplies from students, teachers, classrooms, or even the whole school.  Contact Sandy Katzer at 816-806-9760 to arrange a pickup.
