Good day, St. James Community.  Here is the latest news and your SUNDAY bulletin for May 4, 2025.

There is a Parish Synod meeting following Mass. The agenda includes an update on the search for the Parish Synodal Director, Security concerns on campus, and our budget. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

WE WELCOME ANYONE WHO CAN ATTEND SUNDAY MASS AT ST. JAMES AT 10:00 A.M. Fr. Garry Richmeier will be our celebrant.

Considering that many parishioners are still suffering the effects of the COVID-19 virus and other infections, if you plan to join us in person, we recommend masking if you exhibit symptoms or are immunocompromised.

WE CONTINUE TO LIVE STREAM OUR 10:00 AM SUNDAY MASS, reaching out to parishioners and friends who can’t attend in person. Here is the link to the live stream on our Facebook page for St. James Midtown, KC. A recording of the live-streamed Mass can also be accessed at https://stjkc.org/sundays-at-st-james.

WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO VISIT THE ST JAMES WEBSITE REGULARLY AT www.StJKC.org and provide feedback or ideas for posts. Please send your ideas to website@stjkc.org.

MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO READ AND REFLECT ON THE READINGS BEFORE MASS.  This Sunday’s readings for the Third Sunday of Easter.
FIRST READING
— ACTS 5:27-32, 40B-41: The Apostles “rejoiced” when they suffered public dishonor for preaching that Jesus rose from the dead. Have you ever found joy amid your suffering?
SECOND READING — RV 5:11-14: John has a vision of the whole created order worshipping and praising Jesus as the slain and risen Lamb. In what ways will you praise and worship Jesus this week?
GOSPEL— JN 21:1-19: The resurrected Jesus reveals to Peter that his martyrdom will be the cost of following him and leading the disciples. How are you sometimes challenged in following Jesus?

Fr. Don Farnan has a wonderful weekly podcast that addresses important issues of the day and how they intersect with our faith.

Parishioner Machaela Meckel, is reaching out to other parishioners to explore taking our faith to the streets.  She and others are considering organizing a vigil outside of the OPLA ICE Office (2345 Grand Boulevard) to join as a community in prayer and protest to oppose the actions being taken by ICE that violate human rights of immigrants. A potential date for the vigil, is May 21st, the feast of Saint Toribio Romo, patron saint of immigrants. This saint is said to appear to migrants crossing the border, helping them in the perilous journey to the US.  We will have a planning meeting before Mass at 9 am on May 4 in Marian Hall for all who are interested.  For more information, contact Machaela at:  816-456-0864 or meckelmi@gmail.com.

Mass for the Election of a New Pope
A Mass for the Election of a New Pope will be held on Wednesday, May 7 at 12:15 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Kansas City (416 W 12th St, Kansas City, MO). Bishop Johnston will be the main celebrant. All are invited to attend.
Parking is available in the cathedral’s parking lot and in the parking garage across the street (on Broadway and 12th). Find helpful information on parking and the barcode needed to enter and exit the garage HERE.
The faithful are encouraged to offer their private prayers, works and almsgiving for the election of a new Supreme Pontiff. The simple custom of frequently praying the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be for this intention is encouraged. The election of the new Pope should be prayed for in the recitation of the Rosary.
How the conclave works
The conclave that begins May 7 is expected to be the largest in history, with a wide geographical mix of cardinal-electors. There are 135 cardinals under the age of 80 and eligible to vote in a papal election. 72 countries are represented.
