Racial Reckoning in America: a live webinar – Flanigan Lecture Invitation

August 17, 2020 @ 6:45 PM - 8:00 PM UTC+5

Free
A deadly pandemic, a financial crisis not seen since the Great Depression, and national unrest sparked by a police killing of an unarmed black man have awakened millions of Americans to racial and social inequities that have long characterized the United States.
You are invited to join the 26th Annual Flanigan Lecture, A Letter to My People: Reflections on Whiteness Amidst a Racial Reckoning in America, presented by Erika Blacksher, PhD.
Dr. Blacksher will talk about whiteness, its intersection with social class, and its role in shaping people’s lives and health prospects. Drawing candidly on her own life story as a first-generation high school graduate, she will connect moments in her own journey to ideas about whiteness that we need to begin to explore and understand. What is “whiteness” and why are so many white people clueless about it?
Dr. Blacksher is a population health scholar and researcher and the incoming John B. Francis Chair at the Center for Practical Bioethics.
