Good day St. James Community. Here is the latest news and your Sunday, March 16, 2025, bulletin.
Please take time to read the bulletin. It has a wealth of information and updates.
This Sunday is THE SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT.
WE WELCOME ANYONE WHO CAN ATTEND SUNDAY MASS AT ST. JAMES AT 10:00 A.M. Fr. Don Farnan will be our celebrant.
Considering that many parishioners are still suffering the effects of the COVID-19 virus and other infections, if you plan to join us in person, we recommend masking if you exhibit symptoms or are immune compromised.
WE CONTINUE TO LIVE STREAM OUR 10:00 AM SUNDAY MASS, reaching out to parishioners and friends who can’t attend in person. Here is the link to the live stream on our Facebook page for St. James Midtown, KC. A recording of the live-streamed Mass can also be accessed at https://stjkc.org/sundays-at-st-james.
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO VISIT THE ST JAMES WEBSITE REGULARLY at www.StJKC.org and provide feedback or ideas to post. Please send your ideas to website@stjkc.org.
PARISH SYNODAL MEETING AFTER MASS ON SUNDAY. We need the chairs brought up from Marian Hall. If you can help, please arrive at church at 9:30 to help. Topics include an update on our search for our Synodal Parish Director and the possibility of removing pews in the back of church to make room for our Synod meetings.
MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO READ AND REFLECT ON THE READINGS BEFORE MASS.
READINGS FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 16
FIRST READING — GN 15:5-12, 17-18
The Lord God promised Abram land and many descendants because Abram put his faith in the Lord. Why do you have faith in God?
Second Reading — Phil 3:17—4:1
Paul teaches the Corinthians that upon Jesus’ return, he will change our bodies to conform with his glorified body. Can you imagine what a glorified body will be like?
GOSPEL— LK 9:28B-36
As Peter, James and John witnessed Jesus’ transfiguration, they heard God say, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” As the season of Lent continues, what do you hope to hear from God?
SUNDAY’S JOURNEY TO NEW LIFE COLLECTION. As another way to give alms this Lent, you can contribute to a collection for Journey to New Life this weekend (3/16/25). They ask for men’s jeans, socks, bedding (pillows, sheets, blankets) and towels. You can bring these to the back of the church before mass, and they will be carried up as part of our gift procession. You can also take them to Journey to New Life’s office (3120 Troost).
NEED TO UPDATE OUR FILES. If you have moved within the last 5 years, please respond to this email with your new address. Sunday offertory envelopes and other mailing have been returned to St James with “returned to sender” on them. Also, if you received a mailing from St James you are not interested in, please do not send it back “undeliverable”. When that occurs, St. James is charged for all returned mail, and we will delete your address from our file. Thank you.
NATIONAL NOVENA FOR MIGRANTS AND IMMIGRANTS. March 14-22 Noon Zoom Sponsored by Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, this Novena will be led by a group of US Bishops. For more information and to register, go to ctu.edu.novena/.
ST. JAMES’ CAMPING TRIP. Parishioners are considering reinstating the annual St. James Camping trip! We are gathering interest in a journey to Jadwin, MO, about 4 hours south of KC. There is a private campground that we could fully rent out, with cabins, glamping sites, and tent and RV options. If you are interested, please contact Rachael Coffman at rachaelmarycoffman@gmail.com or see her at the back of church.
