This Sunday is The First Sunday of Lent.

We welcome anyone who can attend Sunday Mass at St. James at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Garry Richmeier will be our celebrant.

Considering that many parishioners are still suffering the effects of the COVID-19 virus and other infections, if you plan to join us in person, we recommend masking if you exhibit symptoms or are immune compromised.

We continue to livestream our 10:00 AM Sunday Mass, reaching out to parishioners and friends who can’t attend in person. Here is the link to the live stream on our Facebook page for St. James Midtown, KC. A recording of the live-streamed Mass can also be accessed at https://stjkc.org/sundays-at-st-james

We encourage you to visit the St James website regularly at www.StJKC.org and provide feedback or ideas to post.  Please send your ideas to website@stjkc.org.

READINGS FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 9
READINGS FOR THE FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
FIRST READING — DT 26:4-10.   Moses taught the Israelites the importance of remembering the story of their release from Egyptian slavery. This event defined them as a people loved by God. What is a story from your family that has helped define you?
SECOND READING — 1 COR 15:54-58.   Paul encouraged the Christians in Rome to genuinely believe in Jesus in both heart and mind. As the season of Lent begins, how might you show others the sincerity of your faith?
GOSPEL— LK 4:1-13.   We hear how the devil tempted Jesus as he was preparing to begin his public ministry. What temptation can you confront this Lent?

Bonnie Haghirian, our Faith Formation Director, has included the documents below to help us better understand and experience Lent.

Parishioners are considering reinstating the annual St. James Camping trip!We are gathering interest in a trip to Jadwin, MO- about 4 hours south of KC.  There is a private campground that we could fully rent out with cabins, glamping sites, tent and RV options.  If you are interested, please get in touch with Rachael Coffman at rachaelmarycoffman@gmail.com or see her at the back of church.

We want to thank Fr. James Smith for presiding at Mass last Sunday.  Attached below is Fr. James’ homily.  It is a good read.
