Well, we were just going to dig up a few potatoes last Saturday, thinking that most weren’t ready yet but we found that, under the weeds of one of the beds, there were plenty. Linda Daniels and I dug up a bed and a half and on Wednesday, when I went up to pick greens for Bishop Sullivan Center, Garry Hanna went over that bed again with a garden fork and he found a bunch more. We still have many more potato plants to dig up and I still don’t think they’re all ready, yet, but we’re going to tackle the few that I think are this Saturday. Bring your garden tools and shovels and forks and meet us at 9:30 if you want to help. If you can’t make it this Saturday, I’m sure the rest of them will be ready by next Saturday.
The rest of the garden is driving nicely with the rain and what little watering we had to do. Cherry tomatoes still ripening so take a peek and pick them when they are yellow or pink (to stay ahead of the critters). There are also peppers nearby, so check them out. The current bushes still have a few berries but the birds are claiming the blackberries.
There is silk on some of the corn, flowers and tiny little butternut squashes and bean plants climbing the trellises. Sweet potatoes are leafing out all over the place.
