PARKING INSTRUCTIONS FOR EASTER AND FIRST COMMUNION SUNDAY

On Easter, April 20, and First Communion Sunday, April 27, we anticipate several visitors at St. James.  To be a more welcoming community, we want to ensure ample parking in our parking lot these two Sundays.  If you are able to, we ask that parishioners park along Troost or Harrison.  Thank you for your cooperation.

WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO VISIT THE ST JAMES WEBSITE REGULARLY AT www.StJKC.org and provide feedback or ideas for posts. Please send your ideas to website@stjkc.org.

WE WELCOME ANYONE WHO CAN ATTEND SUNDAY MASS AT ST. JAMES AT 10:00 A.M. Fr. Garry Richmeier C.PP.S will be our celebrant. Considering that many parishioners are still suffering the effects of the COVID-19 virus and other infections, if you plan to join us in person, we recommend masking if you exhibit symptoms or are immune compromised.

WE CONTINUE TO LIVE STREAM OUR 10:00 AM SUNDAY MASS, reaching out to parishioners and friends who can’t attend in person. Here is the link to the live stream on our Facebook page for St. James Midtown, KC. A recording of the live-streamed Mass can also be accessed at https://stjkc.org/sundays-at-st-james

The next PARISH SYNODAL MEETING is on the fourth Sunday of April, April 27thOur regular meeting Sunday is the third Sunday of the month, which is Easter. Please plan to attend. We will discuss the parish budget.

MEMBERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO READ AND REFLECT ON THE READINGS BEFORE MASS.

First Reading – Acts 10:34a, 37-43: Peter testified that Jesus, anointed by God with the Holy Spirit, did good works, healed the oppressed, was crucified, and rose on the third day, appearing to chosen witnesses. He emphasized that Jesus is appointed judge of the living and the dead, offering forgiveness of sins to all who believe in him.

Second Reading – Colossians 3:1-4: If you have been raised with Christ, focus on heavenly things where Christ resides, rather than earthly matters, as your life is now united with him. When Christ is revealed, you will also share in his glory.

Gospel – John 20:1-9: Jesus, though divine, humbly took on human form, lived in obedience, and sacrificed himself on the cross. As a result, God exalted him, giving him the highest name so that all creation acknowledges and glorifies him as Lord.

EASTER EGG HUNT AFTER EASTER MASS

Students in grades 6 and up are asked to help hide eggs BEFORE MASS, on Easter Sunday, at 9:30. Young children ages 5 and younger will hunt for eggs in the “cloister garden” through the South door of the Church. Parents, please come and help.  Children in elementary school, ages 6 and up, will hunt for eggs on the South Lawn of our parish. Parents, please come and help.   If it is raining on Easter morning, we will have Easter Eggs available after Mass at the back of church. Bring your basket to collect the eggs, rain or shine!  Thank you to our parishioners for supplying eggs, candy, and prizes!

FYI:  Father Don is presiding at the Bishop Sullivan Center’s Volunteer Appreciation Mass at St. James on Saturday, April 26. The church will be in use from 10 to 11:30 am.  Many of our parishioners volunteer at the center. St. James extends a big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who support the center’s mission to serve the marginalized.
