► An hour of your time is needed at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 1, to help put up the crown of thorns and some banners for Lent. No special skills are needed. All ages accepted! Donuts possibly provided! No response is needed- show up.

► Join the Garden Gang on Saturday, March 1, at 10:00 am, and prepare the garden for planting. We will rebuild raised beds, cut down raspberry canes, and pruned cherries.

This Sunday is The Eighth Sunday of Ordinary Time.

► We welcome anyone who can attend Sunday Mass at St. James at 10:00 a.m. Fr. James Smith, a Precious Blood Priest, will be our celebrant.

Considering that many parishioners are still suffering the effects of the COVID-19 virus and other infections, if you plan to join us in person, we recommend masking if you exhibit symptoms or are immune compromised.

We continue to livestream our 10:00 AM Sunday Mass, reaching out to parishioners and friends who can’t attend in person. Here is the link to the live stream on our Facebook page for St. James Midtown, KC. A recording of the live-streamed Mass can also be accessed at https://stjkc.org/sundays-at-st-james

We encourage you to visit the St James website regularly at www.StJKC.org and provide feedback or ideas to post.  Please send your ideas to website@stjkc.org.

The April Community/Synod Meeting is Sunday, April 26, the fourth Sunday of the month. This is because Easter falls on our regular meeting time, which is the third Sunday.

► The next Pantry Sunday, when we help replenish Bishop Sullivan’s Pantry, is March 2. The pantry requests jelly, breakfast cereal, or hygiene items such as shampoo, deodorant, and toothpaste.  They are grateful for our continued support.

► We are cleaning the rectory in preparation for a new Parish Organizer. If you have anything stored there, please remove it by March 7. Otherwise, it will be given away.

Members are encouraged to read and reflect on the readings before Mass.

READINGS FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 2 — 8TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

FIRST READING — SIR 27:4-7

Sirach teaches us to pay attention to how people speak; it reveals a lot. How often do you find yourself weighing your words before speaking?

SECOND READING — 1 COR 15:54-58

Paul speaks of Jesus’s resurrection as taking away the “sting” and “victory” of death. What words of comfort do you use for those grieving over the death of a loved one?

GOSPEL— LK 6:39-45

Jesus encourages his followers to be humble in judgment of others and mindful in speech. Have you had good role models in your life for these virtues?

Attached is a flyer summarizing all the Lenten opportunities at St. James to place on your refrigerator door.
